Master of Arts in Career & Technical Teacher Education

The degree program is committed to helping individuals pursuing careers in career/technical education and industry/business training to attain the highest degree of competence possible in their chosen fields. The program emphasizes the intellectual growth of each student using research-based teaching techniques, scholarly learning, laboratory-field experience, and leadership development. The program aims to articulate with secondary and post-secondary schools, vocational/technical centers, junior and community colleges, universities, the military, and professional organizations in an effort to improve the quality of instructional personnel. The degree is designed to meet the needs of students who have a baccalaureate degree in a discipline other than education and for students who have completed coursework for regular vocational Florida State Teaching Certification. Core and specialization area requirements are designed to provide a convenient and flexible graduate program for those currently working full-time. Some of the program courses are: Lifespan Human Development and Learning; Principles of Learning and Introduction to Classroom Assessment; Measurement and Evaluation in Education; Fundamentals of Graduate Research in Education; History and Philosophy of American Education; Critical Issues in Urban Education; Critical Analysis of Social, Ethical, Legal, and Safety Issues Related to Education; Multicultural Education; Quality Teaching Practices; Principles of Instruction and Classroom Management; Adult Learning; Literacy Strategies for Middle and Secondary School Teaching; Teaching Language Minority Students in K-12 Classrooms.
