Master of Education in Technology Education

The NLU Master’s and Certificate of Advanced Study in Technology in Education are designed to give students the skills and hands-on capabilities students need to integrate technology across the curriculum as well as to train other educators in the effective use of technology in the classrooms. The master’s program, for teachers, resource persons and administrators at all grade levels (pre K-12), is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education for Technology Specialist certification. Technology in Education is taught using both cohort model and traditional on-campus registration. In the cohort model, students go through the program with the same group of 12-20 students in a pre-determined set of courses. Here students learn how to provide leadership in applying new technologies; to provide training and technical support for teachers using computers and related technologies in instruction; to apply principles of effective instructional design to evaluate and design instructional software; to use technology to access and display information, to organize and analyze information, and to evaluate information; to teach problem solving and higher order thinking skills through the use of computer software, multimedia materials, and programming languages; to plan lessons and develop curricular materials integrating technology across disciplines.
