Master of Education in Adult Education

The NLU graduate program in Adult Education is designed to provide the vision and skills students need to facilitate the education and development of adults in a variety of settings, including business and industry; higher education, law enforcement; and social service, community-based and health care organizations. The M.Ed., an accelerated, non-traditional program using adult learning theory and principles, is offered with two tracks: Adult Education Leadership and Adult Literacy/Developmental Studies. Adult Education is taught using a cohort model, which means they will go through the program with the same group of 12-20 students. NLU graduates like the cohort model because of the support and friendships provided by their fellow students throughout the program. The degree program is also available online. Here students learn how to: design curricula to meet the needs of adult learners in a variety of educational settings; develop and manage programs related to learning assistance and developmental education; utilize technology in the education of adults in the 21st century; profit and encourage both collaborative and independent study; apply research design and methodology to adult and literacy education issues; analyze and assess learning abilities in reading and writing.
