The University of Great Falls was founded in 1932 by the Most Reverend Edwin V. O'Hara, Catholic Bishop of Great Falls, in collaboration with the Sisters of Charity of Providence and the Ursuline Sisters. Originally it was named as Great Falls Junior College for Women. The two-year college was located in the Ursuline Academy on Central Avenue. By the early 1950s it became simply the College of Great Falls, and in 1995 obtained university status.
Distance Learning
The University has been interested in outreach education since its founding. The Telecom Distance Learning program now includes sites in Montana and Wyoming and serves students around the world. The University of Great Falls presents several Master’s Degree programs in partnership with Bellevue University of Nebraska.
UFG offers two major methods of participating in Distance Learning. The first one is based on attending regularly scheduled live, interactive LearnLinc discussion sessions. The second one uses an industry-leading course management system called Blackboard, which allows students to participate in class asynchronously – they log in whenever their busy schedules permit.
Distance Learning classes are intended to help you earn a degree from the University of Great Falls from home. At UGF you can choose from several complete degrees and over one hundred courses every year via distance learning.
Distance Learning programs improve student/professor participation and augment communication between students within a class. The usage of different technologies has allowed the University to become a renowned leader in delivering ground-breaking models of education. Classes are small and use a variety of platforms for different degree programs.
Financial Aid
The University of Great Falls offers financial aid programs to assist students in paying for their expenses associated with earning a college degree. Financial Aid helps you pay for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and the student’s living expenses while enrolled. Aid may be provided through some combination of scholarships, grants, work opportunities, and loans.
Accreditation
The University of Great Falls is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the United States Department of Education.
