Online Learning
The main task of Online Learning at Saint Joseph College is to reach those working professionals who cannot be constrained by the traditional course schedule. Saint Joseph College brings academic programs to these students by means of an Internet-based lecture program. Students can fit courses around their work and home schedules, completing programs more quickly.
The benefits of online courses include a threaded discussion and frequent assessment of the material. Such discussion allows students to answer questions posed by the instructor, and then build upon those answers. A dialogue is created both between instructor and student, and among students in a cooperative venture. Frequent assessment ensures that students are cognizant of the material and what they need to do to expand their understanding. Each student generally receives more individual attention via the discussion group and e-mail than students in regular courses.
Online education has been found to be more work than in a regular course, thanks to the greater level of attention offered to the student. Learners must keep pace with the assigned material, lest they fall behind in their studies. Though the courses are asynchronous, the timeline must be maintained with some discipline to prevent the workload from accumulating.
A person can enter a program at any point. Students may participate in the program at the level of progress that is most comfortable.
All online programs have been approved by the Connecticut Department of Education, and we are accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
Financial Aid
The Financial Aid Program is aimed to provide a high quality private education within the reach of as many qualified students as possible. This is achieved by offering merit and need-based financial aid awards that include a combination of grants, loans and on-campus employment opportunities.
