Northwestern University, private institution, was founded in 1851 to serve the Northwest Territory. This territory is composed of the following states: Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and parts of Minnesota. The main campus of the university is located in a 379-acre tract of land on the shore of Lake Michigan 12 miles north of Chicago.

Northwestern has three campuses. Two campuses are located on Lake Michigan: in Evanston, the first suburb north of Chicago, and in Chicago. One campus is located in Doha, Qatar.

Northwestern University is composed of 11 schools and colleges. The faculty for each school consists of the university president, provost, the dean of the school, and the instructional faculty. Faculty are responsible for teaching, research, advising students, and serving on committees. The admission requirements, degree requirements, course of study, disciplinary and degree recommendations are determined by the voting members of each school's faculty.

Online learning is offered through the School of Continuing Studies. Except of this form of studying, the university offers the following: evening classes and weekend classes. 

Northwestern offers a variety of continuing education options through its School of Continuing Studies. In addition, many schools and programs offer specialized coursework in their respective fields.

Financial Aid
Any student enrolled in a degree-seeking program may apply for financial aid. Eligibility requirements include: 1) students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents; 2) students must be working toward their first Bachelor's degree; 3) students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress by successfully completing at least nine units every three quarters of registration; 4) students must not exceed 12 quarters of financial aid, unless they are admitted in a program that requires more than 12 quarters for completion.
