Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

The Computer Science program is a broad-based program emphasizing the areas of programming languages, data structures, information systems, theory of programming languages, software engineering, networking, database, multimedia, applications of computer science and computer architecture. Students who complete this degree online or in attendance at Lamar University will be well prepared to pursue a professional career in any field related to information technology and information systems, or to pursue graduate work in computer science or a related field. The B.S. in Computer Science degree is designed to make it easy for students who want to transfer to Lamar University after having completed the Texas computer science field of study at a community college to complete the B.S. degree online.

Classes are relatively small, usually not more than 20 students. The applications that undergraduate students can choose as electives include game programming, network security, database design, data mining, robotics, and object-oriented software design.

120 semester credit hours that meets the requirements - general university core curriculum: 48 hours; mathematics: 20 hours (some are part of general core requirements); laboratory science 12 hours (some are part of general core requirements); electrical engineering: 3 hours; and computer science: 48 hours.
