Johns Hopkins University opened its doors in 1876, with the inauguration of its first president, Daniel Coit Gilman. This was the first university in the Western Hemisphere based on the European research institution, dedicated to advancing both students' knowledge and the state of human knowledge through research and scholarship. 130 years have past and Johns Hopkins remains a world leader in both teaching and research. Admission

Applications to Johns Hopkins University may be accepted in several different formats. Anyway in all cases, the $70 nonrefundable application fee is due, by check or money order payable to Johns Hopkins University, or by credit card if applying online. Students may also submit a College Board fee waiver form or a need-based fee waiver request from their high school guidance counselor.

The Johns Hopkins University admits all students on the basis of their academic preparation, personal strengths, and accomplishments without regard to their ability to meet the cost of a Johns Hopkins education. And the University understands the difficulties of its students and offers a number of options available to help students meet their educational expenses. Office of Student Financial Services of the Johns Hopkins University is committed to helping all qualified students finance a Johns Hopkins education. Financial aid packages typically consist of a combination of need-based Johns Hopkins grants, federal grants and loans, and Federal Work-Study funds. This aid package covers one academic year and is renewable if students are making satisfactory academic progress, their families' financial situation remains the same, the number of dependents in college stays the same, and they reapply by the deadline.
