Ferris State University is a public university with its main campus in Big Rapids, Michigan USA. Established in 1884 as the Big Rapids Industrial School by Woodbridge Nathan Ferris, an educator from New England who later served as governor of the State of Michigan and finally in the US Senate where he remained until his death in 1928. That school was noteworthy at its time for accepting female students beginning with its first graduating class. This University is also the only public university in Michigan to be founded by an individual.

Nowadays Ferris is the large university with 13,865 students studying on its main campus, at one of the 18 off-campus locations across the state, or online. The main goal of education is on preparing students for successful careers. Ten academic colleges offer two- and four-year degrees and graduate degrees are offered from six academic colleges. Professional doctorate degrees are offered via its optometry and pharmacy colleges and a doctorate of education in community college leadership are provided through the College of Professional and Technological Studies.

Grants are gift aid — money that does not have to be repaid. All grants are need-based.
Loans are funds that you must repay.
Scholarships are merit-based funds that do not have to be repaid.
Work Study is funding that students earn by working on campus.
