Boise State University is Idaho’s metropolitan research university, founded in 1932 as Boise Junior College by the Episcopal Church. This is the largest university in the state, with an enrollment of about 19,000 students.

The university offers many fields of interest for students to choose undergraduate, graduate and technical programs available in its colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business and Economics, Education, Engineering, Graduate Studies, Health Sciences, and Social Sciences and Public Affairs.

The University has the Division of Extended Studies that connects the resources of Boise State University with individuals, organizations and communities to maximize educational opportunity. The Division accommodates a wide range of learners and their circumstances by developing programs that feature alternative formats and locations.

Boise State University is committed to the delivery of academic programs through the use of technologically mediated distance education methods, in order to respond effectively to student needs for greater flexibility of time and/or place and to increase access to higher education.

Most Distance Education classes run the full length of the semester. The Computer-Based Multimedia classes, for example, are offered in different sessions throughout the semester and have deadlines accordingly.
