Master of Arts in TESOL

Students who successfully complete the MA TESOL will gain foundational knowledge about language, how language is acquired and the English language system; be equipped with the knowledge and skills to become effective second language teachers (as well as administrators and trainers); learn the skills to adapt teaching to individuals, contexts and cultures; become lifelong reflective teachers ethically integrating faith and profession. Special Features: learn in an on-line community with a cohort of like-minded classmates; take courses that offer both theoretical underpinnings and practical application; study on a schedule with a good mixture of flexibility and accountability; apply what are learning to the teaching context; be mentored by faculty with extensive experience who understand your personal goals for effective teaching and enhanced ministry. Prospective Students: have at least two years’ experience teaching English as a second or foreign language; are currently engaged in teaching, or have access to classes in which to observe and practice; identify themselves as evangelical Christians; are prepared to allocate approximately 10 hours a week for study; have good Internet access. One-unit classes are scheduled for three weeks in the summer. Three-unit classes are scheduled for fifteen-weeks in fall and spring semesters. People engaged in full-time employment or service can study one course per term and finish the MA in five years. A three-year schedule is also possible for people who have time to study two courses a term. The program usually accepts students for a fall start only.
