Associate of Arts in Journalism
To receive a degree in Journalism, students pursue a full academic and practical curriculum in the gathering, preparation and dissemination of responsible and quality news content. Students may select a specialty in broadcast, print or Internet journalism. All students receive a core curriculum of news writing and reporting, critical thinking, law and ethics. The broadcast emphasis offers significant experiential and classroom training in television and radio broadcast. The print sequence trains journalists for newspaper and magazine journalism. The Internet emphasis trains students to identify and define journalism of the future on the World Wide Web.
The students will study multimedia journalism, including broadcast, print and on-line options. They will learn professional skills that will enable them to adapt swiftly to a changing journalism environment. Content that is useful and interesting will have value regardless of the delivery system or systems of a particular era. For this reason, students also are taught the intellectual and theoretical skills they will need to help them interpret the world around them and understand the role of the media in society.
