Courses in Hemodynamic Monitoring

In this course the students will explore the basics of hemodynamic monitoring in a fun and engaging format. Explore the basics concepts of heart and lung function, hemodynamic equipment, pressure monitoring of the heart chambers and determine the responsibilities of a nurse associated with it and learn how to interpret the hemodynamic data.

The purposes:
* Examine the relation of hemodynamic concepts to drugs and interventions.

* Gain a solid practice in such complex concepts as cardiac output, stroke volume, preload, afterload and contractility.

* Describe monitoring equipment and nursing responsibilities related to catheter insertion, monitoring and trouble shooting.

* Study the difference between normal and abnormal heart pressures and their implications.

* Explain the concept of mixed venous oxygenation and learn how to use it.

* Recognize how to apply hemodynamic principles to case studies.

* This course is especially useful for the novice and can serve as an excellent review for nurses in critical care or step down units.
