UW-Eau Claire provides students with small classes led by talented professors, cutting-edge programs, hands-on research and life-enhancing study abroad opportunities.
The University was founded in 1916 as the Eau Claire State Normal School, offering one-, two- and three-year teachers' courses and a principals' course. Later the name of the school was changed to the Eau Claire State Teachers College and the school began offering a bachelor's degree program.
In 1951, the Wisconsin Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System authorized the school to offer bachelor of arts and science degrees in liberal arts; subsequently, the name of the school was changed to the Wisconsin State College at Eau Claire. And finally, in 1971 the name of the institution was changed to the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire following the merger of the Wisconsin State University System and the University of Wisconsin System.
The university campus covers more than 300 acres in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and features around 28 major buildings. University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is organized into the following academic units: College of nursing and Health Sciences, College of Business, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education and Human Sciences.

But student loans, on the other hand, are just that - loans - and must be repaid with interest.
Repayment, however, is usually deferred until the student leaves school. The other type of assistance is student employment. Work study is a type of student employment based on financial need. Students must earn this type of assistance and receive a pay check based on the hours worked.
