University of Mary is the largest degree-granting institution in Bismarck. It also serves accelerated degree programs at satellite locations in North Dakota, Montana, Kansas, Wyoming, and Missouri. Originally formed as Mary College and accredited the Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 1969, it changed its name to the University of Mary in 1986. U-Mary awarded its first doctorate, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, in 2006.
In 2001, the University of Mary unveiled its new vision as America's Leadership University. In this role, the university is committed to providing leadership experiences for every student.
Throughout its history, U-Mary's mission has been to meet the needs of people in the region. As the university grows, it continues to explore new ways to provide outstanding religious, academic, and cultural opportunities that carry forth the vision of its founders and sponsors, the Sisters of Annunciation Monastery.
Accelerated and Distance Education
Since 1959, the University of Mary, America’s Leadership University has been committed to lifelong learning. It was the first college in the area to offer specialized programs (nursing and education) intended to respond to the unique needs of adult students.
In 1996, the university updated and enlarged its commitment to adult learners with the founding of the College for Professional Studies, which became the School of Accelerated and Distance Education in 2006. Starting with sites in Bismarck and Fargo, ND, it has grown to include 18 sites in six states as well as a program that is delivered completely online. U-Mary has graduated over 3,000 graduates in the past five years alone, and currently serves more than 1,100 students through our site-based and online programs.
Financial Aid
Financial assistance is offered for students enrolled in an on-site or an online distance education programs at the University of Mary. In order to be eligible for financial assistance, you must follow an academic schedule based on predetermined terms and be enrolled on at least a half-time basis.
