Towson University was founded in 1866 and located in suburban Towson. It is recognized among the nation's best regional public universities.
Towson University is the second-largest public university in Maryland with more that 21,000 students. It is a metropolitan university that combines research-based learning with practical application. We collaborate with public and private organizations and this provides opportunities for research, internships and jobs.
As the State’s Metropolitan University, Towson provides highly developed educational experiences and community service through a broad range of intellectual opportunities to a diverse student body at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The University offers the academic programs and services that provide a core quality environment for students to acquire the intellectual and social preparation to achieve their potential as contributing leaders and citizens of the workforce and a complex global society. Faculty, students, and staff serve the region through research and professional outreach that specifically responds to the state’s socioeconomic and cultural needs and aspirations.
With our undergraduate curriculum students will acquire the intellectual skills essential for effective communication, gathering and evaluating information, critical thinking, meaningful use of technology, appreciating diversity, and making informed choices. The liberal arts core serves to develop intellectual and social skills that will guide students as contributing members of the workforce and of a democratic society.
Our baccalaureate and graduate programs are designed to prepare students for success in today's rapidly changing workplace. It is possible for students to choose from 62 undergraduate majors, 39 master's programs and four doctoral programs. Moreover, we also offer online learning that allows you to take classes without stepping into a classroom.
Towson University’s office of Extended Education and Online Learning (EEOL) offers a variety of online courses and programs -- including many in-demand certification courses -- to meet the needs of today's busy work force.
As Maryland's metropolitan university, Towson's mission is being carried out through its eight colleges and by its many interdisciplinary initiatives. Non-degree programs, professional training, learning in retirement, and youth and community arts programs are among Towson's extended education offerings.
