Founded in 1970 Thompson Rivers University is a comprehensive Canadian university offering Masters and Bachelor degrees as well as diplomas, certificates, distance education, and English language programs. The campuses are located in Kamloops, which is a town in British Columbia, Canada.TRU is a leading destination in Canada for international students. Academics
The University offers more than 100 academic programs including four year degrees in over 40 disciplines, a growing number of post-graduate specialties.In addition, TRU offers 19 major career diploma programs that provide an option to ladder into a bachelor’s degree. Key program areas include business, computing science, tourism, science and environmental science, health sciences, liberal arts and humanities, fine arts, journalism, technology, English as a second language. TRU is famous for its unique degree programs in natural resource science, journalism, adventure tourism, business or tourism management, applied computing science, fine arts, and theater. Diploma programs contain respiratory therapy, animal health technology, events and conventions management, adventure guiding, electronics, and computer systems management. As part of becoming British Columbia's newest university, TRU will also be taking over all distance education degrees and diplomas from the British Columbia Open University, and expanding the number of courses and programs that can be available by distance delivery.

Thompson Rivers University offers a wide range of programs to assist students in locating resources to cover basic educational costs and to recognize academic excellence.These programs are administered through the Financial Aid & Awards Office.Financial programs include awards, bursaries, grants and government student assistance programs. Achievement awards comprise of scholarships and prizes.

The Financial Aid & Awards Office can advise on application processes for these programs and will also assist students in reviewing government student aid decisions; it also offers personal financial planning assistance to students who are experiencing difficulty in money managing.
