The university is located approximately 20 minutes northwest of downtown Atlanta. It has diverse student body - 19 percent minority, 22 percent female. Approximately 4,800 students study here, from some 35 states and 82 countries.

University curriculum is a balance of science, lab, and liberal arts. It is relevant, application-oriented teaching. In total, eight graduate degrees are offered. Strong evening and weekend academic offerings are available. 

All faculty members are experienced, classes are taught by professors, not teaching assistants. A teaching institution - teaching is the number one criterion for promotion and tenure. The University provides small classes, 25 to 30 students in a classroom, that provide more individual attention for each individual. All faculty are required to have relevant working or research experience.

Southern Polytechnic State University provides cooperative education opportunities, student assistantships, and traditional forms of financial aid. Georgia's HOPE Scholarship is also available. Scholarships are available, related to student's major, academic excellence, or need.

SPSU offers professional, athletic, recreational and organizational activities to get students involved, engaged and enjoying college to the fullest. There's a group for every interest: fraternities and sororities, departmental clubs, professional and service organizations, competitive teams, and more.
