Southeast Missouri State University was founded in 1873. First it was founded as a teacher’s college. In 1919 the school was renamed Southeast Missouri State Teachers’ College, and in 1946 the word Teachers’ was dropped from the name. The college was elevated to university status in 1972. The undergraduate program in historic preservation was among the first in the United States. It has grown into a comprehensive university with more than 150 academic programs in five colleges, now it offers more than 200 different areas of study and you can choose each of them. This is important because it means you can study a variety of subjects, choose from numerous majors, and meet people who are pursuing a range of interesting careers.

Online degree students are not required to come to campus, and they specifically work with online advisers for the duration of their degrees.
