Master of Science in Dietetic Technician
The MS in Dietetics Program is for registered dieticians to earn their masters degree. There are 15 credit hours of core courses, 15 credit hours of electives and six credit hours that can be used for thesis research (thesis option), research problems (research paper option), or additional classes (non-thesis option written comprehensive). The thesis and research problems students write their thesis or research paper and defend it orally with their supervisory committee. Non-thesis students complete a comprehensive written examination followed by an oral examination with their supervisory committee. The 15 credit core includes nine hours specified for all students (a seminar in current issues in dietetics, a basic research methods course, and a graduate level statistics course) and then six hours of which students have a choice between two advanced nutrition course OR two management-oriented courses. The remaining 15 credits of elective courses cover a wide variety of topics to meet the needs of the diverse dietetics profession including clinically oriented nutrition course, community or public health nutrition course, health care administration, management-oriented courses, food science and foodservice management.
