Rowan University's small-town, tree-lined campus is located in Glassboro, New Jersey. The school was founded in 1923 as Glassboro Normal School with the mission to train public school teachers. It was renamed Rowan College of New Jersey in 1992. And finally it became Rowan University in 1997 when it achieved university status.
Rowan University has just under 10,000 students doing classwork in 36 bachelor's degree programs, seven teacher certificate programs, 26 master's degree programs and the college also offers a doctoral degree in educational leadership. Moreover Rowan University offers online graduate degrees and certificate programs. Rowan University Online is designed to providing quality education that prepares busy adults for continued success in and mastery of their current occupation or for advancement and leadership opportunities. Among the students enrolled at the New Jersey campus or online distance learning program, 89 percent are studying for bachelor's or undergraduate degrees and 11 percent are studying for master's degrees.
