Established by members of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1865, making it the first and oldest institution in Nebraska, it would undergo several name changes before receiving its current name. Peru State College is organized into three schools, each supporting a different set of majors, including a graduate program, plus an extensive online education program that is credited with the college's most recent successes. The college campus spreads across an area of more than 100 acres. Peru State College has an enrollment of around 2000 students and offers over 30 academic programs in various files of study.

Peru State College offers a number of bachelor’s degrees in science and arts. Pre-professional programs in various are also available. In addition, students can opt for the Master of Science in Organizational Management programs or the Master of Science in Education.

The College's educational experience is designed to enable students to learn, to equip themselves for meaningful careers, and to be productive members of community. All students have the opportunity to know their instructors well and to be working partners with the other students and staff. Living and working with others offers many opportunities for friendship, personal development and growth.

Residence Life
Peru State College has an active student life with over 40 organizations and clubs. There are many advantages to living in the residence halls, with the most obvious being the proximity to the College’s educational and recreational facilities. The Academic Resource Center, Library, laboratories, music practice rooms, workrooms, fitness center and campus recreational centers are only a short walk from any residence hall of College.
