NCU was founded by pastor-educator, Eugene C. Sanderson, and named Eugene Divinity School. Through a series of name changes and a merger, the college became known as Northwest Christian College in 1934. In 2008, the name officially changed to Northwest Christian University. Northwest Christian has a deep heritage developed with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Christian Churches/Churches of Christ and we seek to develop a diverse campus community that welcomes students from a wide variety of church backgrounds.
Nearly fifteen percent of the student body comes from these two church bodies. A lot of students come from other Christian backgrounds and groups such as Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist, Foursquare, Lutheran, Nazarene, Episcopal, Assembly of God and Catholic Churches.
AcademicsThe academic programs at NCU not only prepare students for their career, and graduate school if that's in their plan, they also prepare peolpe to analyze, understand and lead. Students'll begin with a solid foundation in the liberal arts: literature, history, philosophy, science and Scripture will come alive. Practical courses in ethics, leadership, speech and writing sharpen student's ability to think, communicate and lead.

Campus LifeCampus Ministries, Athletics, Career Services, Residence Life, and Student Activities are involved in a significant amount of student's college experience. Nearly 80% of what goes on at college happens outside the classroom-and the lessons students learn there are extremely valuable. Northwest Christian University is committed to making student life experience meaningful, memorable, and faith-affirming.
