North Carolina Central University (NCCU) is a state-supported liberal arts institution. It was chartered in 1909 as a private institution and opened to students on July 10, 1910. It was founded by Dr. James E. Shepard.
The mission of NCCU is to train students academically and professionally for becoming leaders. NCCU is a comprehensive institution, which offers bachelor’s degrees in more than 100 areas of study and awards graduate degrees in an estimated 40 disciplines.
Distance Education
For busy professionals, North Carolina Central University offers distance education programs. People who must balance their time between job, home and other personal obligations will benefit from the distance education. The distance education programs at NCCU handily fit into a student’s professional and personal schedule.
NCCU distance education programs can be delivered through various media – Internet, videoconferencing, face-to-face, and soon television so that you can learn conveniently with your professional and personal schedule.
NCCU Distance Education provides you with a level of personal attention and individualized support that cannot be found in many traditional programs. But you have to remember that online learning is not easy. Your professor will demand the same quality of work as well as number of hours as would be required in a face-to-face course.
Online learning is convenient. The point is you rarely, if ever, have to commute to campus, and you can attend class at your convenience – either early in the morning, late at night, or anytime in-between. And no matter when you decide to study, your professor will hold you responsible to meet course deadlines and follow instructions on assignments-so study hard, and have a great term.
Accreditation
North Carolina Central University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate and masters degrees.
Financial Aid
NCCU offers financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and work study. Most Federal and State funded financial aid programs are awarded on the basis of proven financial need. The Office of Scholarships and Student Aid ensures that funds are awarded in a consistent and equitable manner.
