New Jersey Institute of Technology was founded in 1881 as the Newark Technical School. It is New Jersey's science and technology university. NJIT prepares its graduates for positions of leadership as professionals and as citizens. The University responds to needs of large and small businesses, state and local governmental agencies, and civic organizations. It advances the uses of technology as a means of improving the quality of life.
The NJIT experience offers a unique blend of liberal and technical education. The university offers many opportunities to engage areas beyond typical engineering, architecture, and science degrees. It is constantly developing new educational opportunities designed to meet the changing needs of the marketplace. The initiatives may take the form of new degree programs, online learning programs, programs for pre-college youngsters, elementary and high school teachers, or professionals in the workforce.
NJIT’s online programs are student centered. Online classes turn into virtual-learning communities, in which students interact and learn from each other, and their professors, more than they could in face-to-face classes.
