NMSU, is a major land-grant university in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The school was founded as the Las Cruces College, an agricultural college, and in 1889 the school became New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. NMSU received its present name in 1960. The University offers a wide range of programs and awards associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees through its main campus and four community colleges. The University is proud to be a comprehensive university and home to a dynamic and multicultural population of more than 23,000 students.
Arts and recreationNew Mexico State University offers a variety of arts and recreational activities. Art galleries and museums, professional theater, music ensembles and symphony, visiting artists, national performers, professional road shows, on-campus public radio and TV stations, a student-run radio station, an 18-hole golf course, tennis and activity centers and natatorium are available at NMSU Las Cruces.
Financial AidThe goal of Financial Aid Office is to provide understandable information, timely service, and monetary assistance while maintaining stewardship of the public funds. The Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarship Services supports the University's mission by providing access and equal opportunity for financial assistance to eligible students through federal, state, institutional, and private sources regardless of sex, color, age, or other circumstance. No student will be denied financial assistance on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status.
Distance EducationNMSU's distance education degree programs are designed to serve students who may not be able to pursue an education through traditional means. New Mexico State University offers Bachelor degree completion programs, Masters and Doctorate programs, and a number of Certificate and Licensure options. Technology-Based Programs are delivered using WebCT, Centra, ITV (Interactive Television), and other learning technologies. In some cases, brief residencies on the NMSU main campus may be a requirement of the program.
