Founded in 1996 from the merger of two institutions a technical and a vocational institutions of higher education, Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) serves the needs of community by offering excellent affordable learning opportunities.

MCTC is committed to educating globally aware students, who would become engages citizens and skillful professionals in their career field. For this the College provides 2-year learning opportunities. Graduates of the Associate program offered by MCTC may pursue two life tracks upon the program completion: they can either go straight into the entry-level employment or continue further their education at a four-year college or university by transferring credits earned at Minneapolis Community and Technical College.

MCTC offers a completely online Associate of Arts degree, which students can use as a transfer degree to a college or university to finish a Bachelor's degree. Students may satisfy the liberal education requirement with a variety of courses and credits all pursued online. There may be a goal area chosen by the student from the available goal areas, which are Written and Oral Communication, Critical Thinking, Natural Sciences, Mathematical and Logical Reasoning, History and the Social and Behavioral Sciences, Humanities and Fine Arts, Human Diversity, and the like. Students may combine their course work in the way that will best meet his/her personal education goals.
