Michigan Technological University was founded in 1885 as the Michigan Mining School. Michigan Tech students create the future in more than 120 degree programs in arts, humanities, and social sciences; business and economics; computing; engineering; forestry and environmental science; natural and physical sciences; and technology. Michigan Tech enrolls approximately 7000 undergraduate and graduate students from across the nation and around the world.

Admissions
On the whole admissions requirements vary by major. First-year applicants need to submit an official copy of high school transcript, a completed copy of the High School Counselor Information page, as well as official ACT and/or SAT scores. About fifteen percent of students submit SAT scores, the average total score is 1783.

Financial Aid
The Michigan Tech Financial Aid Office assembled a complete list of financial aid options available to incoming students. All admitted students are automatically considered for most merit-based scholarships. Grants are gift aid based on financial need and are available to US citizens and permanent residents. Accepted students are automatically considered for grant programs if their FAFSA results are released to Michigan Tech. Students must apply for grant renewal each year. Accepted students are also automatically considered for loans if their FAFSA results are released to Michigan Tech and they have indicated on the FAFSA an interest in receiving loans. Part-time employment on campus is available through government-funded and University-funded programs. Students who complete the FAFSA and indicate they would like to work on campus are automatically considered for work-study employment.
