California State University East Bay serves the region and beyond with two scenic campuses nestled in the San Francisco East Bay, and a professional development and conference center in downtown Oakland. Founded in 1959, Cal State East Bay, formerly Cal State Hayward, has some 13,500 students at its three campuses on the east side of San Francisco Bay.
Academics
The university is as part of the 23-campus California State University system and offers over 100 areas of study. California State University, East Bay offers 38 undergraduate degree programs and 28 Master’s degree programs as well as a teacher education program. Moreover, the university has a doctoral program in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) offered in cooperation with the University of California, Berkeley, San Francisco State University. There are four colleges at the University, namely:
• College of Business and Economics
• College of Education and Allied Studies
• College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences
• College of Scienceand San Jos? State University.
The university is best known for its College of Business and Economics; a strong Education Department, where a large percentage of California teachers receive their certification; and the thriving Music Department. Owing to the Biotechnology Program California State University, East Bay has a status of the center of research and development in the Life sciences, Bioinformatics and technologies for the Eastern San Francisco Bay Area. In addition, California State University, East Bay is one of the participants of the Internet2 project, a collaboration led by over 200 U.S. universities, private industries, and governments to develop advanced network technologies for research and higher education in the 21st century.
The continuing education programs are offered at all three locations of the CSUEB. Moreover, there are a number of degrees, which students can pursue online. These include Bachelor’s degrees in Human Development, Hospitality and Tourism, Recreation and Master’s degrees in Online Teaching and Learning, and Recreation and Tourism.
Financial aid is offered in a variety of forms in the CSU East Bay, including Grants and Scholarships (aid option that does not have to be repaid), Federal Work Study (work for pay) and also Loans (money to be repaid with interest added).
California State University East Bay is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
