California State University Bakersfield was founded in September 1970 as the 19th member of the 23-campus California State University system. Today the University aims at becoming the leading campus in the CSU system in terms of faculty and academic excellence and diversity, quality of the student experience and community engagement.
CSUB is located on a 375-acre site in metropolitan Bakersfield. Some 7,800 undergraduate and graduate students attend CSUB at either the main campus in Bakersfield or the off-campus center in Antelope Valley.
Academics
The university is a comprehensive regional university and is committed to excellence in its four schools: Humanities and Social Sciences, Business and Public Administration, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Education. The basis for the education system in the university makes a quarter system from September to June with two summer sessions. CSU, Bakersfield offers majors in 31 undergraduate degree programs, seven credential programs in education, and 17 graduate degree programs.
California State University-Bakersfield is a nationally accredited institution. It has received its accreditation from an agency recognized by the US Department of Education. The university is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, with six programs also accredited by national accrediting organizations.
CSU Bakersfield offers online degrees and courses as convenient education options for working professionals. These include an online Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Resource Management, online Master of Science in Administration, Master of Arts in Education program in Curriculum and Instruction. Moreover, the university offers a number of programs through its Extended University Division including online Project Management Certificate Program, online classes for educators, online Enrichment Courses, and online Business Courses. Finally, Regional Programs offers flexible evening, weekend, and online classes in a variety of areas, included but not limited to Liberal Studies, Communication, Education, Business and others.
Financial Aid
CSUB supports its students by scholarships, awards and financial aid programs. These comprise grants and fellowship, loans and loan assumption programs, scholarships and tax credits, and work opportunities.
