California Southern University was originally established on December 27, 1978 under the name of Southern California University for Professional Studies (SCUps) as a traditional paper-and-pencil correspondence school and received its initial approval to offer degree programs from the California Department of Education. The University originally offered associate level programs, and then expanded to Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degree. During the 1990s, the University responded to the growing need for quality distance learning programs in the field of Business, Psychology and Law. As technology advanced, the University incorporated these advancements to facilitate the delivery of educational services utilizing email and the internet. In January 2006 the University transitioned from correspondence to a completely online system. California Southern University today offers a wide range of flexible online advanced degree programs in a variety of subjects through its Schools of Business, Behavioral Sciences, and Law.
