Established in 1950 as California Baptist College, the educational institution has soon acquired the name of California Baptist University. CBU today is a private, liberal arts university under the control of the California Southern Baptist Convention.

Cal Baptist consists of 13 academic divisions, among which there are colleges, departments and schools. While the University offers numerous undergraduate and graduate degree program on campus or at satellite campus locations, there is one distinct program available completely online.
