Founded in 1859 as a school for young women, Averett grew to a fully accredited, co-educational,
four-year college in 1971. Today, the university attracts students from
30 states and 15 foreign countries and offers degree programs at more
than 25 Virginia locations.
AcademicsAcademic programs include special study options: academic remediation for entering students, accelerated degree program, adult/continuing education programs, advanced placement credit, cooperative education, distance learning, double majors, external degree program, honors programs, independent study, internships, off-campus study, part-time degree program, services for learning disabled students, student-designed majors, study abroad, and summer session for credit. Averett University offers 32 undergraduate majors, master’s programs, and business and education and programs for working professionals. Average class size is 13.
