Founded as American Military University in 1991, the American Public University System (APUS) has grown to become one of the leaders in distance education. Today APUS is a private online learning higher education organization, which is composed of two online learning institutions: the American Military University and the American Public University.

The APUS has two administrative offices: the headquarters are in Charles Town, WV and supporting administrative offices are in Manassas, VA.

Academics
Through its two online universities, the APUS offers more than 50 degree programs for students who wish to pursue Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Moreover, there are Certificates and Continuing Education and Training programs offered for professional development. All the courses are completely online.
