The Studio
Sooner or later, every photographer thinks about having their own studio, their own space, where you can plan and control every step in the picture making process.
The studio photographer is a different breed. They don’t stand passively on the sidelines recording events as they happen like, say, a photojournalist. No, the studio photographers stage their own events. And they do this from scratch. They start with an image in their imagination, then using studio techniques and tools, they carefully and deliberately recreates that image on film. And they do this in an environment, which is a designed for one thing only-making photographs.
In this workshop we’ll look at the studio, especially at lighting for the studio. To start with, we’ll cover some general principles of studio design, and we’ll see how a basic all-purpose studio should be laid out. Next, we’ll look at studio lighting and the equipment used to control and manipulate light. Then we’ll cover cameras, tripods and maintenance for the studio. And finally, we’ll deal with product and people photography in the studio.

Portrait Photography
 The Portrait Photography course is designed for any photographer that wants to better understand portrait lighting patterns and posing tips. The course contains 7 lessons with over 40 tips and instructional points. Additionally there are well over 30 pictures and graphics used as examples of both good and bad portrait applications. At the end of the workshop you can complete an optional exam that will track your understanding of the techniques used with Portrait Photography.

History of Photography
The history of photography is rich with inventors, photographers and dreamers. While our craft has been around for 164 years, it is still being developed and improved by visionaries, technicians, photographers and artists. What started as just a dream by a handful of dreamers, is today on the verge of another century of change and new horizons. What we do today, will be history tomorrow, what we do tomorrow will be our new challenges.
This workshop will outline over 30 major milestones that have brought us to this new century of possibilities. Each of these milestones is interrelated and interdependent. Each was a building block for this new medium of communications. While there was many more inventions and developments then 30 over the last century and half, due to limitations of space and time we have selected what we feel were ‘the’ key elements. There is a lot more then just ‘making’ pictures if the professional photographer is going to be successful. They must keep up with the latest technology in both camera systems and accessories. They must keep up to date with the ever-changing business practices if they are to profit from their image making and they must constantly market their services if they want those profitable assignments. But most important of all the professional photographer must learn the discipline of critiquing photography if they want to improve their image making capabilities. That’s what this workshop is all about: Critiquing Photography, Yours and Others. Here we will take a close look at over 75 images and begin to understand why some images work and why others don’t. We will review images that have different types of themes: light, color, focus and composition. We will see how to find pictures in simple locations and what makes the difference between snap shots and images that communicate.
