This site was originally designed to help the students taking Korean classes with Dr. Oh, when he was teaching at the Department of East Asian Languages and Literature, the University of Wisconsin-Madison. However, as it is offered over the Web, anyone who is interested in learning Korean or knowing about Korea receives a very warm welcome. Korean Lessons Korean Lessons contain short step-by-step materials. It starts with some fundamental features of the Korean language, Hangul, and basic sentence structures. Korean Lessons include: - fundamental features of Korean language; - Hangul, the Korean alphabetic system; - some phonological notes; - base form and stem in a predicate ; - forming predicates with verbs, adjectives, and nouns ; - subject markers; - object markers; - who? what? where? - this 'n that, here 'n there; - styles of speech -- a broad picture; - numbers (i) -- general description and Chinese numbers; - numbers (ii) -- native Korean numbers; - locative markers (-e and -eso^). Hanja(Chinese characters) These lessons start from the simplest characters. Each character is listed with three most-frequently-used word examples where it is used as a part (i.e., lexeme or morpheme), along with actual sentences that contain such words. Each lesson contains five entries of characters. Korean for fun Designed for those who need Korean words and phrases for unexpected reasons, yet urgently, or just for fun.
