French language and culture: beginning 1
Learn to communicate in French in various social and cultural situations. Taught in an informal and relaxed atmosphere, this class develops skills needed by travelers and others who want to learn about French language and culture. It also is an excellent basis for further study in French. No prerequisites.

French language and culture: beginning 2
In an informal atmosphere, continue to learn and practice French language and culture, using dialogues, short readings, and authentic cultural materials.
 
French for reading knowledge
This course provides a compact overview of grammar, as well as reading and translation practice, for graduate students and others who wish to read French. It has successfully prepared numerous participants to do research in their fields and for the French Reading Knowledge Exam (included in the fee). Individual meetings with the instructor provide further support.

French Reading Knowledge Exam
This translation examination is accepted by UW-Madison graduate programs. For information on dates and location and for an approval form call Irene Geller Lugassy. No refund after registration.

Business French Certificate
You can earn a Business French Certificate in the Summer or Fall in the Business French for Professionals directed study courses, or in the Winter-Spring Business French Certificate course.

French for professionals, directed study: levels 1 and 2
These directed-study courses are for people who want to begin to learn professional language and business practices of French-speaking countries. Work at your own pace. Prerequisite: one year of French or instructor's consent. Student and instructor arrange location and times.
